Great diary!

Two questions: one, didn't Lazio region change hands in the regional elections earlier this year?

Second, what kind of party is "Italy of Values"? Is that Mussolini's breakaway party, or some other right-wing group, or a leftist group?

Yes, Lazio was governed by the center-right under Francesco Storace (member of the National Alliance and now Health Minister in the Berlusconi cabinet) for about 8 years (??) and is now governed by Piero Marazzo of the center-left.

"Italy of Values" is a member of the center-left coalition. It tends to lean more toward the center than the left, hwovere. It's members are mostly ex-Christian Democrats, like most of that which passes for "center" or "moderate" these days in Italy.

Lately, is has been stressing the importance of "the moral question" in Italain politics. That is, it is focusing on eliminating precisly the kind of things I wrote about in the diary as well as other froms of corruption from the Italian body politic.

La Mussolini's break-way party, FWIW, is called "Alternativa Sociale" (Social Alternative) and is profoundly neo-fascist in ideological orientation.
