I get the SPD on top both times. Unweighted the LP comes a close second (lol) weighted the LP is further behind, tied with the Greens, the FDP close is behind them. The CDU-CSU is a clear last in both cases.  Not sure how you guys guess the percentages but from what I can tell mine are pretty low all around, particularly when weighted - ranging from about two thirds for the SPD to below half for the CDU-CSU.
In reality my clear first choice are the Greens with the SPD a distant second, then FDP and CDU tied and the LP is  clearly last.

Maybe your choices have more to do with persons, party past and speeches than policies?

You're right, that is a factor. But that's normal. To take an extreme example a friend of mine who is right-libertarian would, on the surface, be much closer on economic issues (as based on their platform) to the Repubs than the Dems, but he can't stand Bush for obvious reasons. Or take the extreme right in Poland. On economic issues they are fairly left wing, but no left winger in their right mind would vote for them.

In the case of Germany I dislike the LP for its SED past and for Lafontaine's current racism - the stuff he wrote in his book is worse than anything he said in his speeches btw. As a result I don't really care what their official platform is - they're beyond the pale for me. I also haven't been particularly impressed by Schroeder's performance as chancellor, on the other hand I don't know how Merkel would be.
