Wasn't government invented because feudalism was not a very reliable form of government, and good policy-making required professionalisation?

I have said before that philantropy is the social policy of feudalism, and advanced democracies should be able to do better.

Western civilisation must be on the brink of collapse, if all our elites are clearly manoeuvering to place themselves at the top of the dung heap for a new round of feudalism.

They were quite happy at the top of democracy™ before, what has changed?

I agree wholeheartedly with that diary, and may I say I have been thinking of writing one just like it.

Except the part with the neocons, I had not thought of that. Very good point.

I just realised that it was a year old. A question for the gnomes: Is that why I could not comment, and if so what is the timelimit for comments?

But you made the point I have been thinking about very clearly, so I see no need to write my own.

It looks like the server is set to archive content after one month. This is to limit the size of the live database. On sites with larger traffic, like DKos, things are archived much more quickly. You can't post into the archive.

The build up of the middle classes has been so wildly successful that it is not possible to parasite them for quite a bit of time before it actually had adverse consequences; and when it does, they have invented the brilliant idea that more parasiting is needed to solve the problem.

The time for everbody to understand the scam, they'll have made out nicely thank you.

It's just a more sophisticated form of extorsion in what had become peaceful, prosperous societies.
