Actually the US is out, somewhat. One of their attaches was a victim of the surveillance and also the square of cell phone towers described in the press conference above is very close to the US Embassy. Seems like a pretty poor job if it was the Americans.

Not sure why Turks would want to monitor anti-war protestors and Arabs. Definitely would be interested in bugging the PM and Defense ministry though.

Turks have their problems with the fundies. Don't know about the anti-war. I'm just guessing here. Anyone occur to you?

My guess would be disgruntled elements of the Greek security services. The security service angle explains some of the anti-war and Arab tappings, and the rogue element would explain the PM and other government taps.

But, not knowing the Greek political scene, I don't know if this is plausible at this time?
