There is a good chance that a real Iranian build up will be minimized by those burned by the Iraqi claims. It's possible that the front page reporting on Iranian bombing plans by the US are an attempt by certain factions to ensure that opposition is in place before things get out of hand (again).
As Vietnam showed, war weariness spills over into other areas, and alters foreign policy for decades afterwards. I asked awhile ago where Europe was in solving international issues. I seem to remember there were few good reasons offered for lack of real action on the part of the EU. Policies not Politics ---- Daily Landscape
Yes, rdf, you can look at it that way. But I suppose the answer depends on the definition of 'real action'. Can we classify the U.S. invasion of Iraq under that term? There seems to be a lot of U.S. action covering up an even greater amount of inaction or, maybe better yet, dishonest action. It might just be that the European approach to Iran will prove successful. After all, if the U.S. had waited a while longer before beginning to implement their action in Iraq, more Europeans might just have joined them and a lot of the present chaos might just have been avoided. A mere suggestion on my part.
Certainly the US policy just announced with India shows a certain degree of hypocrisy. But two wrongs don't make the international situation better (to coin a phrase). Policies not Politics ---- Daily Landscape
