That's what I predicted, Migeru, a couple of weeks ago on the BBC prediction page -- Italy 1 - 0.

But now, though, I don't know.  If Italy scores early this could be a 5-0 blow-out with the U.S. going all out but unable to defend against the Italian counterattack.

In any case, most followers of the U.S. team see the same traits the team exhibited in '98 when they went three and out.

Bottom line: the U.S. team is made up spoiled brats who never face tough competition until World Cup time.  Americans are poor losers (I'm an American) who have a hard time improvising when things go bad (witness Vietnam or Iraq).  Instead they 'stay the course' right into disaster.

Have you seen the enthusiastic tone of the wikipedia article on the US team?

Well, wikipedia is wikipedia.  Nice idea, but the weakness is its strength -- humans.

Ghana 2 - 0 over the CR.  Italy beat Ghana 2-0.  Does that mean there is a 7 goal difference in quality between Italy and the US?  We'll see in an hour.

Maybe they'll lose 4-0...

The interesting thing about this group is that there is no reason why the US could not beat Ghana, and then you would end up with Italy with 3 victories, and Ghana, CZ and US tied at 1 victory, and in would all come down to goal differences.

Alternatively, the Czech Republic might beat Italy and Ghana the US, and you'd have three teams tied at 2 victories and the US with three defeats.

This group is very interesting: the Czech will likely not qualify with just a tie against Italy, and if they win Italy itself might fail to qualify...
