The British government is clearly in the right here. Copyright is necessary to promote creative work: without it, who would write anything for public consumption? We'd have nothing to read. Copyright provides authors the income they need to practice their craft: without it, the British government would earn no royalties from the public dissemination of text from this document. With so-called "freedom of information", taxes would soar. And we must remember that information piracy is theft: taking information from the government will leave gaps in their files. If we allow theft of information, government will lose the records it needs to learn the lessons of history, and we will all suffer.
