Don't forget it's the US always supports DemocracyTM - which really means puppet rulers and death squads and anything else that will maintain favourable asset-stripping opportunities for Wall Street at the expense of the local population.

There's something entirely predictable about DemocracyTM:

  1. Steal the election
  2. If you can't steal the election, stage a coup
  3. If you can't stage a coup, invade
  4. If you can't invade, denounce the leaders of the non-compliant countries regularly and associate them with communism/terrorism/whatever else is fashionable at the time.

Lebanon would seem to be a level 3 attempt to promote local DemocracyTM.
