I believe Pirsig's "Metaphysics of Quality" constitutes one of the most important philosophical insights in a very long time. If we apply his metaphysical insight as a foundation we may build financial and economic infrastructure that actually has some relationship to Reality, instead of that based upon the completely nonsensical assumptions which are used now.
Bryson's phrase is worth repeating.
Once in a great while, a few times in history, a human mind produces an observation so acute and unexpected, that people can't quite decide which is the more amazing, the Thought, or the Thinking of it
And I'm probably not qualified to judge the merits of Pirsig's work in the larger scheme of things. What it has meant to me personally simply dwarfs what it may mean in that larger sense. Now where are we going and what's with the handbasket?
