A couple of photos taken of Bangkok from my hotel window.

Above ground metro

Roof tops of some of the few remaining older buildings.  More interesting than the new steel and glass.  Love the awnings.

Your photos arrived late for us in Europe, but were well worth the wait!

You stayed in the cosmopolitan part of Bangkok?  I was a few miles along the river near the Khao San Road, where most of the buildings are far from shiny!  It's an amazing city, full of contrasts.

Yes, we always stayed in this part of Bangkok, but as late as 1991 it didn't look like this at all. None of the skyscrapers existed then.  I returned in 1999 and they were just there and all of the older buildings had just disappeared.  I know the old downtown section remains as it was and along the klongs and river as well, but it seemed to me me that even the flavor there had changed quite a bit.
