It is railway track, I hoped it wouldn't be this obvious... but a special kind: one with Y-sleepers. They are less maintenance-intensive than normal track in tight curves. I know they exist in many places, but the only one example I saw with my own eyes happened to be in the village I lived in in then West Germany.

Ahhh, clever. I wouldn't have guessed they were the sleepers.  Great photo!
