Huh.  I really don't know.  Looks like a jurist (seated, and in front of a courthouse) but it's not familiar.  I could take a wild stab and guess John Marshall, but I'm pretty sure that's not right.

Bravo, that is right! I thought you would get it. The photo was taken in Warrenton,Va., one year ago. His home was near Warrenton (15 miles) in, Delaplane, Va. right near the town of Marshall. I'll be going there today. My business partner lives right next to the old Marshall estate, and I think John Marshall might have once lived in my partner's house.

No way!  I'm really surprised, it was just a guess.  I knew it wasn't the "famous" (relatively speaking) Marshall statue, but I couldn't think of who else it might have been.  I really should have recognized him, though; I used to work about eight blocks away from his "city" house!

I haven't spent a whole lot of time in Warrenton, but I've got a sibling who lives not terribly far away from there.  I hope you have a great visit!

It's early Saturday morning in Delaplane Va. I'm staying at my partner's house. I couldn't resist showing him our photoblog of last month where you recognized the picture of the Biograph. Strange things do happen on the internet; he was touched. I also hadn't realized that you had linked to the "ode" to the Biograph by one of our former employees; I missed it.
As for a little history his house was built by John Marshall for one of his sons. It burnt down early last century but was rebuilt on the original foundation.
I took some photos of the Marshall house, and will try to post them here. But I don't have broadband now so they might have to wait 'till I return to town later today,
