I haven't had time (or courage, honestly) to go wandering around my neighborhood with a camera, but here are some shots of the "views" from my apartment.  Sadly, I don't live in one of Cairo's more picturesque neighborhoods, which are full of beautiful dilapidated old buildings; mine is composed entirely of ugly dilapidated modern buildings.

Satellite dish farms have been planted on all the rooftops... they remind me of big plastic sunflowers.

And rooftops have lives of their own, and people who live on them.  Here's a neighbor, reading (probably the Qur'an).

And this one is not actually something I look at every day, but I think it's kind of a cool picture.  It's the breezeway in my building.

The huge number of satellite dishes always astonishes me.  Is it just for tv?

Yup.  There are probably still many PhD dissertations to be written about the degree to which satellite TV has changed the Arab world, even though it's been written about quite extensively for years.
