The timbers supporting the steeple had rotted away so the structure had to be rebuilt. The pioneers didn't have a crane.
We were VERY organized and efficient in rebuilding the steeple and thought we had saved a bunch of money. However, when we poured new footings, we discovered the floor had been destroyed by rot and various critters. So we had to spend the money anyway.
The steeple as seen this afternoon. There is still some siding / flashing work to do.

Actually, I am not sure how I get roped into these sorts of projects. BTW, this is the picture we are supposed to match. No I didn't take it--we guess it was taken in early June of 1876.
