A plea or two towards our diarists (and commenters):

  1. Please avoid lazy linking! Some web addresses can get quite long, and if you just insert it into your diary(/comment), it may get too wide for some readers' screens. The site gnomes sometimes correct jump in to this, but they need a rest! (And even they can only correct it in diaries.) If you don't know HTML, the New User Guide has a section on that (now updated with a plea against lazy linking).

  2. If long, please don't put all your diary above the fold! The diary editing page has two edit fields. The upper one is for a shorter intro part, which will appear if the site gnomes promote your diary to the Frontpage. It also appears in your personal Diary page, as well as  the Diaries page (see also link on the left edge of the top menu), which become quite unwieldy if you put all your 3000-word text there.

There is a NUG section on diaries that mentions above-below the fold parts, too.
