There are 7 diaries by front-pagers out of the last 50, but okay, let's take them out. That gives you 4- diaries per day over the past 9 days. Plus the salon and open thread that's 6- stories per day. If you want the 10 stories on the front page to spend a day there you need 4 stories/diaries by front pagers each day, other than the salon and open thread.

But you have the traffic you have. You still did not answer my question... why is 5 diaries per day not good enough? What turnover do you want for the front page?

the average is fine. It's just that there was a lull in diaries at the same time as none of the FPers were around, so not much new content throughout the day. Not a big problem in the larger scheme of things, I suppose.

One thing the diaries are good for is to bring more variety of topics. Sometimes I feel like a broken record.

There is also a lull in site traffic on Saturdays. "taking out days 8 and 9" means  averaging from Snday to Monday - lower average because of the seasonal effect of the weeend. But if you look at the site traffic this week has been normal for the month and so presumably we're on trand for the year, which is up.

Heh heh, you sound like Jerome debunking writing with stats and charts.

By the way,

if you look at the site traffic

where is this possible?

Maybe I've spent too much time reading the Dear Leader.

There is a link to the sitemeter page for ET at the bottom-right of the page.
