Having multiple teams recode the algorithm at the same time

Ah some common sense. The only place where recoding of complex algorithm is done is for non military airplanes software (even the military don't do it). Because it's quite expensive.

No one recodes the same algorithms in research: this is top boring, researchers don't have the ressource, and the probability of getting you a new publication from recoding on your CV is near zero (not even talking about IP issues between institutions).

As this kind of sloppy behaviour spreads this means more junk science.
