Maybe a bit long. Shorter letters often gets more easily published, but that depends on the paper in question so you are a much better judge off that.

... suggested to me is a Seattle free paper ... and the length is for a column / op-ed, not for a letter to the editor. After some experience writing letters to the editor in the fight to save the Newcastle rail line, I learned that if I included several points, the paper would invariably print the one that I preferred least.

I've been accused of being a Marxist, yet while Harpo's my favourite, it's Groucho I'm always quoting. Odd, that.
