We really need to investigate how many people have trouble with the uploads. The difference between 80 Kb and 300 Kb is peanuts for broadband, unless one is ridiculously multitasking.

I'd prefer to have to max 600 w as standard - it is big enough to appreciate the picture without going to a larger version. People can post smaller if the picture doesn't merit the full size.

Let's continue with wednesday photoblogging and see what comes up.

I'd rather see your Oktober fest as a diary - even if there's not much text. A sort of photo essay. I consider such diaries and, of course, the RG extravaganzas, as an essential part of ET. Sharing feelings and experiences are as important as sharing information and opinions.

I'd also like to see more ET generated video and I will make a note to self to do so ;-)

People on dialup or slow broadband can still enjoy the diary by setting their comment display preferences to dynamic minimal which will collapse all the comments to a title line and allow (using javascript) individual comments to be loaded witha click of the mouse.

This has been a public-service announcement by a non-gnome.

Sorry, I can't help you with that.

It would be useful to know if there's anyone who hasn't been able to read this diary because of limited bandwidth. (Best asked in an open thread and not here, to make sure they can read the question.)

Being ruthless, I'd guess there's a solid majority on broadband. And there isn't much that can be done do for those on dial-up because anything bigger than tiny thumbnails is going to be too much for them. (Never mind those using mobiles.)

So I'd be happy with 600 pixels for the maximum dimension, and a size of 50-100Kb.

Re: content - we could maybe have a very loose theme announced ahead of time, so people who have the time and inclination could take some new photos. (Or pick out some favourite older ones.)

Max 600 px wide, and under 100Kb, was what I was suggesting.

I know, I was agreeing.
