It takes a mathematician to get distracted by eavesdropping a conversation about surface integrals :-)

No...we just ended up distracting them when they started to get an inkling that the 2 weirdoes at the window table might understand what they were talking about...and probably began to wonder why there were possibly 2 other people in an icecream cafe who understood what they were arguing over. Quite funny really...sort of Gary Larsonish...

Like a billy-goat!

Not really like a billy-goat, but yes, he can get around pretty good esp. with the help of a cane for longer distances.

He still has his license and a better driving record then either of his grandsons!

He still cooks all his own meals and does all the housework except deep-cleaning (once every other week a cleaning person comes).

Still reads the Times everyday and 4 or 5 weekly magazines (New Yorker, Harpers, etc.).

I always say: "If I'm a tenth the man he is at his age, I'll be very happy".

Thanks for noticing his strength of character...

Yeah. The only problem was a nut loose behind the viewfinder.
Me.
The interface is OK- could be better-- and the focus is a bit lethargic. All easily compensated for, once you learn the system. But the lens is just superb.

As promised, this morning's breakfast TV appearance. It was too complicated to get it wired up, but the director was pleased to have what is known in the trade as a 'bit of business'.

Thank you for your support. I shall wear it always.

For those who don't know what that was all about...

Sven Triloqvist:

I'll probably be on Finnish Breakfast TV later this week in celebration of a noted rock star's 60th birthday. It's not my choice, but I must return a favour.

I thought first I would present him with a chocolate cake with a light bulb sticking in it. I'd say there's not enough room for that many candles, but it's a 60 watt bulb - and then switching the lamp on say, 'anyway, it was a good idea'. Of course I have to get this past the electrician's union.

But then I thought I don't support incandescent lamps - so should I stick in a flourescent and say 'I know it's only 11 watts, but it's equivalent to 60.'

I know, I know - I live a futile life...

But which should I do? The neat joke or the progressive joke? I mean, with the latter, I might get a follow up question about energy.

Or....I could do both. Start with the 60 watt, then pull it out and switch it for the 11 watt to make a point. Hmmm

My grandson at his second birthday party, Nov 2007.

My father (in the dress) and his two brothers near their tent home, about 1920.  Their father was working in the Northern Louisiana/East Texas oil fields; he would die of pneumonia the next year and leave my pregnant grandmother to take care of four children. Their baby sister had already passed away at 1 year of age.

I suppose auntie might be jealous of her nieces, but as a practical matter, one is happily married to her high school sweetheart and the other lives over a 1000 miles away.  The other factor is that in her family, this is just how women look so there is nothing to get jealous over.  In fact, auntie just DOTES on her nieces so jealousy is probably the last thing on her mind.  So I seriously doubt that my life expectancy is in any jeopardy over this.
