Clemente Mastella, Minister of Justice, has resigned. His wife, Sandra Lonardo president of the Regional Council of Campania, has been arrested on charges of bribery.

Mastella has attacked the judges on the tried and trite charges of politicized justice and persecution.

Mastella's resignation opens a grave government crisis.

Surprisingly as of now no official notification of the arrest has been served to Sandra Lonardo. There are only a series of news dispatches apparently leaked in the wake of the uproar over the Pope's cancelled visit. Ms. Lonardo has declared that there's a persecutory conspiracy against Catholics at the moment.

Mastella resigned his office with an inflamatory speech in the House accusing extremist judges of conspiracy against the higher objectives of the nation.

It all seems well rehearsed. One wonders if it wasn't Mastella in person who arranged the whole show as a convenient excuse to bring down the government.

We will see in the next hours what happens. If Mastella's small party will continue to support the government or not in the Senate. Considering the ovations he received from the right wing, it's doubtful.

In the meantime Cardinal Ruini has called on the faithful to attend next Sunday's Angelicus in St. Peter's Square to testify against the persecution against Catholics in Italy.

persecution against Catholics in Italy!?!?

I think it's time to ask a certain cardinal to pee in a plastic cup.

Prodi has refused Mastella's resignation. Mastella intends to think it over. The National Association of Magistrates has issued a harsh reply over Mastella's vulgar and calumnious attack against magistrates this morning.

Ok, the arrests are official. Not only Mastella's wife but several other members of Mastella's own personal party, the Udeur. Bribery.

Ms. Lonardo has declared that she's being persecuted for upholding Catholic values. The witch-hunt is on. First the pope, now the Udeur. Tomorrow there'll be bonfires on every corner.

Do you need shipments of wood or can you just use the trash from Naples?

Methane. Pope Gregorio was so renowned for his flatulence that "gregorio" means "fart" in Roman dialect. Nobody in Rome has that name.

In that case, this is an explosive issue!

Now over thirty arrests. That must mean Mastella's entire party along with relatives to the second degree.
