January 24 is the statistically coldest day of the year in Minnesota.  This year, is was -28° C on our thermometer at 0600.  In the afternoon, I went out to check on the progress of our historical preservation project.

The valley settled by the Norwegian immigrants.  Notice how there are no signs of life--even tough guys stay inside when it so cold.

Sunset on a graveyard.  Before power tools, no one would think to try to dig a grave in such hard ground.  This fresh grave was covered with frozen dirt.  I'll bet the graveside service was VERY short!

Our project nears completion.  Note the extensive use of copper flashing.  The pioneers certainly never used such luxury building materials but as the folks who first built this little church were the model for Thorstein Veblen's "Instinct of Workmanship," we assume they would have used copper if they had had access to it.

Did I mention that it was VERY cold when these pictures were taken?

And just to remind ourselves what this area looks like when the temperatures are more like 33°C...

Wait out our wicked government?  Hope that happens in your lifetime.

Actually, the MAIN reason I get involved with Scandinavian identity preservation projects is to remind myself and others that if WE had any influence on this government, it would not be so insane / wicked.

Perhaps because I have a thing for things that fly, I like this shot the best of them all.
A gull, perhaps one of the best flyers of them all, in high-lift config, just before touchdown. Great shot--great resolution.

Holga! A Chinese plastic camera with fixed aperture and speed. You need duct tape to fix the light leaks. Then you load up some expired 120 roll film and go have fun.

It's not yet midnight, so I'll have another go... :-)

For the "greener" part of the audience :-)
Freïburg, at the end of the Vauban district, a low energy consumption building...

The colored slabs hide a particle filter and a heat exchange system for natural ventilation between a busy street and the apartments. The main building (on the picture) shields smaller row houses (picture 2) from the phonic disturbance of the very motorized street !

This time it was the 18-70 DX zoom (kit lens), as it was handy for the trip to Tübingen, Voraltberg and Freïburg, and still the same good old D200 :-)

The stencils were shot with the 50/1.4 S and the 85/2 AIS respectively !
