I'm not going to bellyache, I'm just going to note that as a registered voter in the District of Columbia, I have no voting representation in Congress, so I only barely count as an American citizen.
And this is not meant to influence your vote in any way, but I would love to send Al Franken to the Senate. I mean, if I had a Senator, I wouldn't mind it being Al Franken. Not that I have a Senator or anything, but all I'm saying is that Al Franken would be a good one. Not that anybody cares about what DC voters think about who should be in the Senate. Because, you know, we don't have a Senator.
Not seeing that over here in the US, I therefore have a hard time taking the vote all that seriously. But if I could take it seriously, I too would be 100% for the sanctity of the secret ballot.
Please note, however, that caucus votes are most often by show of hands or something similar (grouping together physically also often happening). I've only once run a caucus where we did paper ballots, and then only because the caucus was so overrun with people that this was the most practical way (Democratic caucus, 2004). So the system itself, at least until the general, isn't exactly as sanctified as all that... "C'est un scandale !"
And I do happen to live in a place where vote manipulation, and pressure on voters right when they vote (elderly mostly), happen very regularly on local elections. Where social housing access is made easier if you promise to vote for the right person. Postal ballots would have lead to militants "helping" citizens fill them up, 10 years ago in Paris.
OTOH, this diary doesn't give me apoplexy - you have a right to discuss your vote with friends beforehand, as long as the vote itself is secret ! As long as there is no way to verify redstar actually votes for who he has promised, it's not a problem... Auferre, trucidare, rapere, falsis nominibus imperium; atque, ubi solitudinem faciunt, pacem appellant.
you are the media you consume.
Your user ID must be lower than 4000.
What number are users up to now? (Or are you worried about people getting multiple accounts) Life should consist in at least fifty percent pure waste of time, and the rest doing what you please.
Wasn't worried about multiple accounts, but in the (extremely) off-chance some of the partisans at another site signed up and, say, overwhelmingly voted to make me go caucus for Huckabee then vote for Paul, I'd like to have an honorable way out of the wager.
Ain't likely, but with some of the partisan fanatics in the US on the internet, you never know. "C'est un scandale !"
I once voted tactically in an election on the assumption that my favoured candidate would get in anyway. Unfortunately, a lot of other people did too, and he ended up not getting elected. The guy I did vote for sold out soon after.... Vote McCain for war without gain
Regarding presidential politics... well.. int he primary mmmmhhh...
Ok I leave it that to another.. I do nto really care. Clinton is gonna win.. so it really does not matter and the go-torture-war-to-islam-burn-inmigrant republicans do not deserve a McCain.
A pleasure I therefore claim to show, not how men think in myths, but how myths operate in men's minds without their being aware of the fact. Levi-Strauss, Claude
I'd push for a vote for Edwards/Obama in the presidential contest. Edwards is the key but by the time this primary comes around he might not be in play so the Obama train is preferable to Clinton, who I don't trust.
Cool idea!
