Well, postal ballots allow exactly the same possibilities of abusive husbands voting for their wives as the caucuses in Iowa, for example.

And I do happen to live in a place where vote manipulation, and pressure on voters right when they vote (elderly mostly), happen very regularly on local elections. Where social housing access is made easier if you promise to vote for the right person. Postal ballots would have lead to militants "helping" citizens fill them up, 10 years ago in Paris.

OTOH, this diary doesn't give me apoplexy - you have a right to discuss your vote with friends beforehand, as long as the vote itself is secret ! As long as there is no way to verify redstar actually votes for who he has promised, it's not a problem...
