Not seeing that over here in the US, I therefore have a hard time taking the vote all that seriously. But if I could take it seriously, I too would be 100% for the sanctity of the secret ballot.
Please note, however, that caucus votes are most often by show of hands or something similar (grouping together physically also often happening). I've only once run a caucus where we did paper ballots, and then only because the caucus was so overrun with people that this was the most practical way (Democratic caucus, 2004). So the system itself, at least until the general, isn't exactly as sanctified as all that...
And I do happen to live in a place where vote manipulation, and pressure on voters right when they vote (elderly mostly), happen very regularly on local elections. Where social housing access is made easier if you promise to vote for the right person. Postal ballots would have lead to militants "helping" citizens fill them up, 10 years ago in Paris.
OTOH, this diary doesn't give me apoplexy - you have a right to discuss your vote with friends beforehand, as long as the vote itself is secret ! As long as there is no way to verify redstar actually votes for who he has promised, it's not a problem... Auferre, trucidare, rapere, falsis nominibus imperium; atque, ubi solitudinem faciunt, pacem appellant.
