That's an ugly looking situation overall.

Of course I haven't lived in NL for a while, so I don't know if there is any backstory to add to the article...

I am going to completely ignore this.

Aside of this comment, of course.

There's no backstory to add other than that Ayaan Hirsi Ali shot a short movie about the Koran together with Theo van Gogh (Submission pt. 1, a one sided picture but with some artistic merit to it), so the reference for this Wilders stunt is clear.

Adding: Wilders sucks, but his support is limited. I think he's going to be blown out of the water by Rita Verdonk in the next elections, who is less insane but more dangerous than Wilders, because she'll get more votes. I hope that neither will get much, but that really depends upon the mood. One assassination or bombing and we'll be looking at up to a fifth of the second chamber.

Extreme rightist Wilders, independent MP for the PVV(Party for freedom) is preparing a film in which he will show that the Koran is a fascist book, comparable with Hitlers 'Mein Kampf'.

So there is some panic around, government warned for reactions from muslims all over the world(remember the Danish cartoons) and nobody wants get involved in playing that film.
Now Wilders says he's going through with the film and if needed publicise it on Youtube.

Well, he got his media attention before the film is even finished.
