people may not want to see this done, but thats no reason not to do it. part of the Job of being president is making these tough decisions. Standing up and saying that The criminal activities of the former government had made it impossible to legaly try the people involved, might go a long way.

But I must say that the speach required to sell that to the American people would be worth sitting up to see , and would be a large measure of his political and oratory skills.

Life should consist in at least fifty percent pure waste of time, and the rest doing what you please.

It's surely possible to say that the previous administration had gone over the edges of the rule of law, and the result was not consistent with American liberties, and needs to be corrected. Just as the Bucheney administration found the means to detain indefinitely without prosecution or trial (and that is the major legal aberration), so it will be possible to find the legal means to go back on that.

If 'twere to be done, 'twere best done quickly.

But it was relatively easy for a lawless administration, one that was openly, boastfully beyond the law, to do what they want.

It is a much more difficult thing for an administration that wishes to adhere to the rule of law to administer reparative justice for the previous administration's behaviour whilst actually staying within the law and the Constitution.

We kinda talked this out before and I think wait and see is the best option.

I entirely agree it's not easy and not sure to work out well.

But there's pressure from the other side too. If this problem isn't addressed, it's an elephant on Obama's back, in the eyes of the world and of a great many Americans who voted for him too.
