It is a traditional Finnish stringed instrument, a cousin of the harp, zither, and piano etc - i.e. sequentially tuned strings in a frame that are plucked or stroked, and also resonate with each other. It is not an instrument that I have been very keen on, but I now realise that it was because few players could really keep the little bugger in tune.
But skilful playing on a well-built instrument is a another kettle of the Kalevala. Anna-Karin Korhonen is a great exponent - and there is a new CD just released of her own compositions. You can hear some snippets here. Sorry no youtube yet... You can't be me, I'm taken
Always a hit (in my book). The music's over. I've turned out the lights. Bye Bye.
