I know somebody who works for Netafim... and I know truffles producers in Valréas (France) where a truffles market takes place every wednesday from November to March...

Question:  Their source of truffles?

And thank you for the Netafim ... reference.  Will bookmark and explore.

80% of French truffles come from plantations (ie not "wild"). Wikipedia.

Ooooh, they're going to hate seeing me coming.  They can take their live trees and shove 'em.  OLD TECHNOLOGY!

Hold tight.  The fun has just begun.

Gotta go.  Megan tutoring in about 30 minutes for 2-3 hours.  Brain like Swiss cheese after one of those sessions.  Laptop going back to the manufacturer tomorrow for a new one.  Won't be back on line till next week.

Don't burn the place down while I'm gone.

The Valréas area is the biggest truffles producing area in France. It has been so for centuries. AFAIK, they have mainly oaks.

Any idea about the current tonnage produced per year?

Yearly production in France: 20 to 50 tons, 80% in the Vaucluse and Drôme area.

Very Nice.  Thank You.  Plenty of room to bleed a "small" mount of tonnage onto the market without it causing a stir.
