My wife's aunt in Mexico has a large Autumn scene mural kind of like this last photo, but the leaves on the ground are all yellow and red and there is a large oak in full color off to one side.  Every time I see that mural in the middle of the tropics (green all year round) I get home sick.  So, I have been looking for a good example of a similar Fall scene to use for my own mural. Unfortunately, after hiking down two miles of forest trails like this one, I couldn't find anything that was close enough. Guess I'll have to try again next year.

damn, your standards are high. i suspect we've probably all seen the same wallpaper, and this is better.

if you can do a more beautiful autumn woods shot than that, i'll eat my...

left blank in case you do!

I hear what you're saying and thank you for the compliments.  I guess it has a lot to do with what I visualize as the perfect Autumn scene, and I probably will never be able to reproduce that mental image.  I do, however, like these scenes more for some reason.  I also shot some of the same scenes in medium format film that I haven't had processed yet.  The problem here too is that it is not possible to show good small detailed landscapes with such tiny file sizes. Some have been cropped, downsized in ppi, and compressed to the lowest limit in order to get to under 100kb. I think one needs to have a good click link site to do justice to many of the landscapes.

This one, from Riga, Latvia, was posted in an earlier blog and is one of my favorites, though it doesn't really look good here.

These last two were shot about the same date as the group above.

This one was cropped extensively from the top and bottom and reduced to 60ppi at 1 jpg compression to get in at about 100kb.

i remember the top one, it's lovely. the granitey blue colour of the water is especially moving.

the second one looks like tha same pic as the one i praised, but in a different location :)

just kidding...it's nice, but doesn't have the 3rd eye factor as much.

the bottom one is very beautiful. the jigsaw effect of the foreground leaves is astonishing, and the light and rest of the composition are dropdead gorgeous as well.

lucky man to have been in the presence of such beauty, and lucky us, that you captured those transcendent moments so well!

i've just been over at booman's rating up some snaps, where olivia's doing a very gracious hostessing of their photoblog. very nice work over there too.

my, but there are some supertalented photographers in our midst!

I do like the leaves in the last photo. The amazing thing is that this entire national forest has miles and miles of trails in 15,000 acreas of forest that are completely covered by leaves like this in the Fall, and only a relatively few people visit during the week.  I practically have the place to myself.
