TUC press release

Responding to the Government's campaign to ensure workers know about the National Minimum Wage (NMW) launched today by Business Secretary Peter Mandelson, TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said:

"The TUC is pleased to see the Government being proactive about enforcing the rights of minimum wage workers, and taking the campaign on the road to Britain's towns and cities.

"Working people will be pleased to see the Government standing up for their rights, and cheating bosses need to know that they will not get away with underpaying their workers.

"Every time the NMW has been increased it has helped more than a million low paid workers. Therefore it is really important that everybody who is eligible for the minimum wage knows what they are due and how to enforce their rights.

"Unions are working with Government to get this message across to low paid workers, and the campaign bus has a key role to play in achieving this goal."

It kicks off in Cardiff tomorrow and will go across the UK.  Ignoring the fact that Peter Mandelson has not exactly proven to be a friend of ours since he landed back in the cabinet, it's a good thing to be raising awareness of the minimum wage.
