I have to wonder if the White House and Senate opposition to a bailout for the automakers coupled with the suggestion that, instead, Congress repurpose the $25 billion they earlier appropriated to help Detroit retool for new technology does not reflect the core attitude of these folks and their oil company clients: "If you don't help us sell our product at the best possible price, then to Hell with you!"

If sanity be culturally normative, then by the norms of this culture I claim insanity.

Isn't it the oil companies and their political clients? The oil companies, after all, are where the policy creation skillset resides in the relationship.

With Bush at least it is a relationship of mutuality. The same for many senators.
