Dieter Althaus, the 50-year-old governor of the eastern German state of Thuringia, collided with a 41-year-old Slovakian woman while skiing at the Riesneralm ski area in south-eastern Austria on Thursday. Both were immediately flown to the hospital by helicopter. The Slovakian woman, who lived in the US, died on the way.
Althaus is one of Merkel's supporters, a pragmatist, even vs. the Left Party. *Lunatic*, n. One whose delusions are out of fashion.
What Seehofer means to do is influencing the electoral strategy of his sister party. He's saying that the CDU shouldn't only campaign on the Kanzlerin. Can't fault him for that, but it's not something he gets to decide in the end.
P.S. SPD/Greens/Left are at 49%; CDU/FDP at 47%, according to the poll on the right. That's another grand coalition.
Depending upon the development of the economy, a lot will still change. The largest potential is there for the left party.
I haven't had the time to read Seehofer's missive in detail, but my hunch is that there is an implicit overture towards the Greens. *Lunatic*, n. One whose delusions are out of fashion.
