As I reported a month ago, on the edge of a village in Hungary, unknown attackers threw a molotov cocktail and then shot with a gun into the home of a Gypsy family, killing two.
Two weeks later, at the other end of the country 300 km away, on the edge of a city, an unknown attacker threw a hand grenade into another Roma family's home, again killing two, and left behind a plaquet with the text "You die!".
In both cases, police insists that their first suspicion is a common crime motive, e.g. unpaid dues or business disputes. At least in the second case, neighbours have similar suspicions, and police indicates that they have concrete suspects. But they announced a 10 million Forint (c. 40,000) reward for information, and formed a special investigative unit for attacks with explosives and Molotov cocktails.
One has to wait and see what emerges. There was one nasty case previously when the assumption of racist hate crime was turned on its head (to the glee of racists): when a gang of rowdies molested passengers on a tram, and one bald guy killed a Roma boy with a Samurai sword, it turned out that the "skinhead" gang member was not only not acting on a racist motivation, but was Roma himself. *Lunatic*, n. One whose delusions are out of fashion.
Samurai sword
Made before 1963, no doubt. <grumble>
