I noted Friday evening ExxonMobil's playing tough against Venezuela - well Chavez has reacted:

Venezuela warns on U.S. oil supplies over Exxon fight

CARACAS, Feb 10 (Reuters) - President Hugo Chavez on Sunday warned he would halt oil supplies to the United States if it continued to attack Venezuela as he said it had done with an Exxon Mobil (XOM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) lawsuit freezing assets of the OPEC nation.

The anti-U.S. president also said such U.S. aggression could cause world oil prices to spike to $200 a barrel.

Washington has distanced itself from the Exxon legal offensive in which the largest U.S. company won international court orders freezing up to $12 billion of the state oil company PDVSA's assets.

I'd be curious if anyone can dig anything on that "Washington distancing itself from Exxon" line...

Chavez Says U.S. Is Selling Cocaine, Arms to Venezuela's Poor

Feb. 10 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S., supported in part by factions in Colombia's government, is selling cocaine and weapons in Venezuela's low-income neighborhoods as a way to destabilize the country, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said.

Chavez, speaking on his weekly television and radio show, didn't give evidence to back his allegation.

``There is a plan that is very dangerous for us that is being designed in Colombia by the U.S. with support of some factions in Colombia, to pack this place with paramilitaries,'' he told viewers on ``Alo, Presidente.'' ``I am denouncing something that needs attention.

``But they won't be armed with rifles, nor marching in formation. No, they will be working in the ghettos, selling cocaine, for less than market price, very cheap, a fifth column, to advance the ghetto thugs and arm them with weapons of war. It's a plan of the North American empire.''

It's politically impossible for him to turn off the spigot. He's edging close to "bringing a knife to a gunfight" territory.

you are the media you consume.
