Hmmm. Let's see if we can find the problem...
  1. I assume you are using windows? On mac it would be the apple key, not Ctrl.
  2. Does Ctrl ; do anything for you? Ie. scroll down the page and see if this key combination takes you to the previous new comment.
  3. Open Tools-->Error Console. Click the 'Clear' button (to get rid of the many Error: mismatched tag lines generated by the EuroTrib rating responce) Try Ctrl ; and Ctrl ' again. Any errors?
  4. If no errors, open Tools-->Add-ons(or Extensions). Click the TribExt line, and then the 'preferences' button. Click 'Remap keyboard shortcuts' in the window that pops up. Are these two keys listed in that window? Are they named NextNewComment, and PrevNewComment respectively?

Everything is as you describe, and ctrl ; works.  But ctrl ' doesn't.  Strange.  I have tried just about every other key combination as well.

Try 4 again, this time re-setting Ctrl+' to some other key combination.

tried re-mapping to ctrl # - didn't work.  There was a conflict over ctrl I - so I deactivated one of those.

Is the second sentence an aside, or did Ctrl+# work after that deactivation? (If you couldn't apply changes even after that deactivation, note that there may be other conflicts lower on the list: scroll down to check 'em all.)

do it didn't work after deactivation - I thought the conflict over ctrl I might have been the problem.  It does allow me to change mapping but nothing happens.  There are no further conflicts.

Many thanks for your help guys - its only a minor point and the dynamic rating alone makes the upgrade worthwhile

Did you open a new browser window after remapping and applying? It wont work for already open windows. Also, be careful with things like Ctrl #. This is the same as Ctrl+Shift 3 on the US keyboard, but the remapper will not recognize that conflict.
I doubt this is the problem though, absent key conflicts...
