US Air Force Blocks Access to Many Blogs

The Air Force is tightening restrictions on which blogs its troops can read, cutting off access to just about any independent site with the word "blog" in its web address. It's the latest move in a larger struggle within the military over the value -- and hazards -- of the sites. At least one senior Air Force official calls the squeeze so "utterly stupid, it makes me want to scream."

Until recently, each major command of the Air Force had some control over what sites their troops could visit, the Air Force Times reports. Then the Air Force Network Operations Center, under the service's new "Cyber Command," took over.

Hat tip to American blogger Tom who remarked in his blog, Politics Plus,

Do you believe that they aren't trying to keep airmen in the dark? When they refer to "primary official-use sources" they are referring to the MSM. They want to make sure that all the news the troops get is filtered through the right-wing media. How ironic that the ChickenHawk-in-Chief and his GOP Reich deny First Amendment freedom to the very people tasked with defending it!

It doesn't get any more damning than this.

Tangentially it reminds me of a scene from the documentary control room when someone from NBC, I think (Matt Lauer?), is being interviewed about al-Jazeera and says something to the effect of "well, these countries don't have a legacy of a free press, so it's neat that they're getting this opportunity" when he himself is so deeply indoctrinated that not only can he not express opinions that vary from those given to him by his bosses, he probably isn't even aware of it. Fascinating from a psychological perspective.

you are the media you consume.

And it's about time.  Eye, for one, am just about finished with the effect of letting our airmen, much less normal trash soldiers, have access to narcotic news like promulgated on blogs.  If Dog would have wanted blogs to be available to soldiers, he would have given them all iPhones at birth.

Free thinking is going to kill us all, which would go against the Book of Revelations, which says something else i going to kill us all.  My soldiers need to be primed, not filled with doubt.
