The stone is fantastic, a wonderful color (sandstone, I think)...

It is next to the Neckar...

Damn! Indeed it is! I thought of everything else in the region, even including Heidelberg University, but forgot about the intact part of the castle facade...

When I was here for the first time, we did the full tour in group behind a tour guide, who told a lot of anecdotes about the recent history of the castle. Then when the tour ended and he said farewell to everyone, he came to us -- and greeted us in Hungarian: an emigree...

The scaffolding on one side on gioele's photo reminds me of one 'anecdote' told by that tour guide: an old women exclaimed at the end of a prior tour, "I was here in my childhood, and it looks exactly the same!" To which the tour guide responded in his own re-telling "But dear lady, we had to spend millions for it to look the same..."
