Az interneten indítottak kampányt Tony Blair volt brit miniszterelnök EU-elnökségre történő jelölése ellen azok, akik ellenzik ennek még a gondolatát is. A www.stopblair.eu oldalon szereplő listát csütörtökig háromezren írták alá, azaz kedd óta megkétszereződött a számuk, noha a lisszaboni szerződésben előírt elnöki poszt betöltéséről csak az év végén döntenek a tagállamok - feltéve, hogy addig valamennyi tagállam elfogadja a korábban megbukott EU-alkotmány helyébe lépő szabályozást. A kezdeményezés célja "csírájában megakadályozni", hogy Blair kampánya kibontakozhasson.

A lot of national wire services copied AFP's, but news media carrying those added nothing.

That is how a good deal of news coverage happens. You can see it all the time in Google news by checking out different media versions of the same basic 'event'.

However, if a news media decides to write its own article on something, that's an indication of real traction, real media interest. So far, we have that in the British, Belgian, Dutch, French, and (surprisingly early on) US press.

Both are useful in broadcasting the message. But you are right - when a journalist catches something on the wire worthy of a rewrite - or heaven forbid, a bit of research, it is ndication that it is more than just news wallpaper intended to decorate blank spaces surrounded by advertising.

That is called media competition - if unsure, talk or keep silent with the herd.

Btw, we can always track Google news on our topic. It gives 75 hits om "Blair petition" currently, though not all are related to this Blair.
