Well, Cleo's home. She has a huge wound from the operation with giant stiches, a huge bald patch on her back where she was shaved and about the same level of power in her back legs. Which is all as you'd expect, I suppose, though the size of the wound surprised me.

It'll take twelve weeks to six months for a full recovery if she's going to make one - they're giving her a 90% change. In the meantime it's physiotherapy multiple times a day - helping   her stand on her back legs and later they recommend swimming, which should be interesting because she hates the water.

On the plus side, she's been wolfing steak, rice and chicken and we were pathetically pleased to hear her annoying whine as she pleaded for food off our plates.

And I discovered that almost any pill will go straight down if you wrap it in steak fat!

on the plus side, it doesn't take much water in order for a dachshund to have to start swimming...

Works for me too.

Seriously, glad to see she's making a recovery

Speaking of steak: well, this is an open thread, right?  There was a news item a couple of days ago (in the Evening Standard?) about an $85 (or £85?) burger made of Japanese beef from hand-reared (?) cows which are massaged by Japanese farmers. That's not all: the burgers will be served with foie gras on top.

I am speechless.

Anyone want to exercise their wit on this?

I just watched your tribute to you mother on your blog. It's beautiful; nice to see you here!

Thank you LEP, I'm pleased you visited Blaugustine and am glad to be here even if I'm finding this site a bit confusing to navigate. Things (like diaries) seem to vanish mysteriously and are presumably stored on high virtual shelves, hard to reach when you're only 4'11 inches tall :)

P.S. I see you have some lovely photos also. You might want to take a look at our weekly Friday Photography Blog and share some with us.

P.S. Thanks for this too, LEP/rafifoon. I will look at the ET Friday photoblog and certainly would like to contribute some photos and maybe some other images of mine but I have to find a way to do this.
On my website I put some code on the pages which have many of my graphics, to stop people stealing images by clicking on them. So to unblock them, in order to post some here, I'd have to remove the code and that's a hassle.
The solution would seem to be to upload a selection of images on flickr, or similar site, and then upload them here from there. Any better suggestions?

Sounds like a good plan to me!  We'll look forward to seeing your contributions.

I use Picassa which I find very easy to use; except for how to reduce the photos under to under 100 kb. (You'll need a g mail address for Picassa.)I eventually discovered how on a forum. If you want to try Picassa let me know and I'll tell you how.

Assuming you have Picassa loaded and set to pick up images on your desktop you do the following. You go to Picassa back to library and click on the original photo which will open it  and may be 3 megabites.
After you open the original photo you click on export on the bottom right of Picassa set to 600 pixels and either normal or minimum.
It will then open its own folder  with the reduced image. If the image is in another folder click on the folder to release the image. Then drag it to the desktop.
You then reopen Picassa library and miraculously there will be a folder which says desktop which will include the reduced image. You then open it and send it to your web album assuming you have a g mail account. I always send it to a folder that says do not delete since if you do ET will lose the image also.
Et voila. You find the link to this photo set it at 800 or 400 if you want it  smaller and paste the link into ET

I've now signed up with Picasia, downloaded the thingy that lets me upload stuff from my Mac and uploaded two albums of my photos so far. Now all I have to do is wait and see what the topic of the next ET Friday Photoblog will be and I'm ready to go. Thanks!

great natalie!

you can toss a pic into an open thread or a salon too, if you like, it makes a nice break from text...

Japanese beef from hand-reared (?) cows which are massaged by Japanese farmers.

You're probably referring to the famous Kobe beef...

The article mentioned 'Japanese wagyu beef' - is that the same as famous Kobe beef? I haven't followed your link yet. Even if it's beef from heaven, massaged by angels, I wouldn't pay £85 for it. Especially not if it's topped with foie gras.
