Thanks, DeAnander, for posting this. I do hope your buddy means tomorrow, May 1, 2008. I took the day off today unfortunately, or I'd call in in solidarity. I am the middle-aged daughter of a Midwestern Socialist rail union member who went through Great Depression. I am seeing more and more people finally calling our current economy in the US by its proper name - neoliberal. (When I first read it in an essay by a Green in NYC, Stan Aronowitz, I reacted in shock, no, can't be, that's in Latin America only.) Nice to see May Day have a significance again.

I was going to look up a recent post you made on so-called conspiracy theories, and the people who put down such ideas, as I thought it expressed my views well, that those who deny conspiracies often cannot/will not prove the conspiracy theories wrong - I live across the street from Antioch College, the little social justice liberal arts college a group of defense-sector-affiliated meanies seem to have closed or be trying to close, and of course, I do very much feel personally targeted with my own job at risk as a non-professional, non-academic, office support worker by the so-called leadership (what a misnomer) here in the Dayton area who'd like to see us all unemployed (and what would they then do with us? recent comment in the Guardian Weekly by a Canadian - !dammit! - suggests they'd put us in prison - cheaper wages and much more controllable). Former Billmon reader. Thanks for this posting! Happy May Day!

Interesting comment. Thanks.
I know Antioch college well- relatives and friends attended, and I participated in one of their testing programs. Incredibly good source of real education in the humanist tradition. Sorry to hear about it's troubles, and hope you will tell us a bit more on what's happening, perhaps with a link or two.
