Great minds & all that.

Drew, I'm starting to wonder if the GOP will even be a regional party after November.

As am I.  But what region will they be in?  They're falling apart in the Deep South now.  That was supposed to be their region.

And the race wasn't even close.  Childers is on the verge of a double-digit victory with one precinct in his stronghold left to count.

Wishful thinking. Some of this is protest voting. Enough Repubs are pissed off right now to give us this kind of seat. Come November most of them will have come home to their tribal allegiances helped by being constantly reminded about Hussein Osama. And no, it wouldn't be any better with Hitlery 'feminazi' Clinton. If we win more than a dozen House seats I'll be pleasantly surprised, if we win more than two dozen I'll be in a state of ecstatic shock.

Some of it is undoubtedly protest, but I do think there's some real movement that's opening up seats we couldn't have hoped to grab four years ago.  The stars are aligned in a very real way, it seems.

So a dozen seats seems too lite to me, honestly.  Two dozen is in the ballpark.  I'd look for more like 30 when all is said and done.

That's the House.  The Senate looks a lot better.

Speaking of the Senate, Scott Kleeb won the primary in Nebraska tonight as the netroots candidate against some asshole that Ben Nelson was pushing.

I like our chances on that one with Hagel leaving.  If Hagel decides to take the dive and support Obama and Kleeb, we'll be in great shape there.  I'd even consider Secretary of State, or something like it (so long as it's not SecDef), as a good reward for ol' Chuck.

why not SecDef? (not really thrilled about either, I'd like Rice, Powers, or Lake in the State and NSA positions, haven't really thought about Defense)

Don't want a Republican at SecDef, because we have qualified people, and it would reinforce the "Republicans = Defense" thing.

The final result was 54/46 and 7,962 vote separation.  To me that says it's more than "just" a protest vote.  People really are fed-up.
