Definitely not reading straight this morning. He can't have linked himself to two of the greatest public liars of recent decades. Can he?

I didn't realise that "changed the law in order to block the course of justice" could be better said, in fewer words, as "cleared entirely" without any loss of sense or meaning.

That's a useful typing time saver.

Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed. Gandhi

It's yet more trademark early 21st century moral inversion.

War is peace.

Freedom is slavery.

Ignorance is strength.

And criminality is statesmanship.

criminality is statesmanship

A new truth is beauty revealed. Tho I think the Romans and the Borgias may have beaten the Bushes/Blairs/Berluconis/Olmerts to it.

Dany-Robert Dufour (Le marché divin. The liberal cultural revolution, Denoël, 2007) provides, in ten chapters, the Ten Commandments of the currently dominant neo-liberal morality:

  11. The report itself: You let lead by selfishness... and you will enter gently in the herd of consumers! (This leads to the destruction of the individual).
  12. The report to another: You utiliseras the other as a means to achieve your ends! (Either a perfect reversal of the second Kantian maxim that led to the destruction of any common decency).
  13. The report to the Other: You can all worship the idols of your choice, provided that you adores the supreme god, the market! (This leads to the return of religion and the invention of the figure of perverse puritanical).
  14. The report transcendental: You do not fabriqueras Kant-te itself to evade the implementation flock! (This leads to the disrepute of the ideal critic).
  15. The political report: You combattras any government and you prôneras good governance! (This leads to the destruction of politics reduced to the sum of private interests)
  16. The report to know: You offenseras master in any position t'éduquer! (This leads to the transmission of disrepute and discredit power trainer works).
  17. The report language: You ignoreras grammar and vocabulary barbariseras you! (This leads to the creation of a Newspeak)
  18. The report to the law: You violeras laws without you make! (This leads both the proliferation of law and procedure to invalidate any possible form of Act).
  19. The relationship with art: You enfonceras indefinitely the door already opened by Duchamp! (This leads to the transformation of the negativity of art in a comedy of subversion).
  20. The report to the unconscious: You libéreras your impulses and you chercheras enjoyment without limit! (This leads to the destruction of an economy of desire and its replacement by an economy of enjoyment).

  1. In relation to oneself: let yourself be guided by selfishness... you will tamely join the herd of consumers! (This leads to the destruction of the individual).
  2. In relation to others: use others as a means to achieve your ends! (Which is a perfect inversion of the second Kantian maxim that leads to the destruction of common decency).
  3. In relation to the Other: you may venerate all the idols you choose, as long as you adore the supreme god, the market! (Which leads to the return of religion and the invention of the perverse puritan figure).
  4. The transcendental relation: you will not create self-possession [Kant-à-soi untranslatable pun] with the aim of staying out of the herd! (Which leads to the discredit of the critical ideal).
  5. The political relation: you will fight all governments but prone good governance! (Which leads to the destruction of the political realm, reduced to the aggregate of private interests).
  6. The relation to knowledge: you will insult any teacher capable of educating you! (Which leads to the disrepute of transmission and the discredit of the formative power of (great) works).
  7. The relation to language: you will be ignorant of grammar and will barbarise vocabulary! (Which leads to the creation of newspeak).
  8. The relation to the law: you will break laws without getting caught! (Which leads to the proliferation of code and process while invalidating any possible form of Law).
  9. The relation to art: you will keep on breaking down the door Duchamp already opened! (Which leads to the transformation of art's negativity into a comedy of subversion).
  10. The relation to the unconscious: you will set your impulses free and seek limitless pleasure! (Which leads to the destruction of an economy of desire and its replacement by an economy of (accomplishe) pleasure).

Oof! And they say the French don't have any intellectuals any more! ;)
