1.  I'm rooting for Chelski on the basis of their nickname alone.  And because the idea of Roman's being "the Savoir of the Chukchis" makes me giggle.  Unlike those who hate him for not keeping Russian profits in Russia, I am of the opinion that this is all a nefarious Kremlin plan to take over England buy buying it up!  LOL.

Curiously, I keep hearing Russian Man United fans being interviewed.

2.  Uhm, the Russian police are not the Russian mafiia.  And if things get out of hand, it'll be the OMON - scary straight otta Chechnya paramilitary special ops forces who will whip them into shape.  And ... they are not afraid of using a little violence.  Their motto is "We know no mercy and do not ask for any."  yikes.

Man United fans come from everywhere except Manchester (cos then they'd support Man City, it's the way it is). There's probably a few thousand of the deluded fools living in Chicago

I know the type.  The University of Miami has a similar fan base.

Actually, I think Manny U is likely the only foreign team a good chunk of Americans could name.

Well the in-laws are divided between the London hammers fans, who think I should be supporting the London team, and the scousers who are of the opinion of Anyone except ManU so I should be supporting Chelski. My protestations that I just want to see a good game are being treated with suspicion, as if I'm sitting with the red shirt in the corner of the room.  My protestations that the only Premier league club I've ever seen a game at has been Man City is not helping that much.

Life should consist in at least fifty percent pure waste of time, and the rest doing what you please.

Oh yes - there are.

You might be interested to know that Chicago has a significant soccer (gulp - sorry, its what we call it) following here.  Those Latino immigrants we accuse of taking our jobs have really made the sport popular.  Actually, it's just a big immigrant town.  Latinos, Irish, Eastern Europeans ...  Lots of soccer fans.  Also, Chicago has a pro team.  I don't really know what it's like in other parts of the country, but the last world cup was wildly popular here - everyone was watching.  I frankly don't remember it very being so mainstream in the past.  Anyway, yes, I see people sporting Man United gear around town.  DoDo, can I call these people Sovoks?  There's something Sovokish about it, no?

It's pretty big here, too.  I think we figure it's our "in" for indoctrinating the Mexican and Mid-East crowd into hyper-consumerism.

Although our pro team is now awful.  And, being from Chicago, you know what that means: It's the stadium's fault, and they need a new one.

Or a spaceship ontop of the old one...

Hm... you know, the Cubs haven't had new stadium in a while.  ;)

And all those years y'all have been blaming the team.  For shame.

Oh no, we've never blamed the team.

We blame the "curse."  We feel sorry for the team.  Having to play while cursed.  Not their fault they suck (actually they are doing quite well now) - it's the curse's fault.

I thought the Red Sox were the cursed ones -- the Curse of the Bambino?  (Yes, perhaps I reveal my ignorance of baseball here.)  Not so much anymore, granted, but they griped about it for decades.
