That particular aeromachine had the worst fall-out-of-the-sky record of all U.S. 'fighter' planes ever. The USAF discovered early on that the thing didn't so much fly as wander around the sky for awhile, then succumb to gravity. So naturally they had Convair keep making them and shipped them to the Air Guard units.
