I'm a bit intolerant of euphemisms today, exactly what is France (or NATO, etc) defending against?

How about calling a new military strategy what it is - a rapid response force, or a peacekeeping force or a neo-colonial client state support force, or whatever?

The US adopted this slight of hand when it renamed the War Department, and the military hasn't "defended" the country once since then (or even before after 1812).

So what's the real game?
