I was trying to capture the movement of the paddles but it's difficult to do that with kids who are moving all over the place as well, up and down and to the side.

I wont be able to post today. I'm off to Paris with Raphael to investigate rooms for him for the school year. (Now that's movement.) I'll try to post tonight.

My only semi decent attempt at panning. I'm rubbish at panning.  I've seen some photos where the subject is so sharp and the background shows the blur of movement (eg a person on a horse).  I haven't got the hang of it yet.

Wow.  I think you DO have the hang of it.  You can tell from my horse shots of granddaughter that I'm just a point-and-shoot amateur, but your shots look professional.

P.S.  Fran's vegetable shot below makes me think a good theme some week might be "food" or "dining" photos.  Or has that already been done?

Thanks. It did take dozens of attempts to get one that worked but I guess that's how to learn!  And food/dining photos would make a good theme, I don't think we've done that yet.

Love your movement pictures, In Wales - all of them! And the lead picture is great and fun, makes you head jerk a little - because of the need to take a better look at it.

Thanks Fran.  I'm trying to have a purpose with some of the photos I take, seems to be working!

Is there a reason why the lower 3 are a tat lighter than the upper 3?

I really like that first picture, works excellent as a stand-alone.

I adjusted the brightness on all six with Picassa's fill light control. Perhaps I did an uneven job.
But upon reviewing the originals, the photos of the girls returning are lighter than those departing. I didn't take them so I don't know why.

Some further info - I used my travel tripod on the stump of a tree. It was taken about 60 feet / 18m from the "dance floor" with a 30 second exposure. I assume someone discharged a flash on the right of the frame to make the guy in the photo visible and in focus. All of the light is from glow sticks, maybe with the exception of a small part of the right frame where the stage is just out of view.

Here are some motion shots done with fairly ordinary digital cameras.  I begin with granddaughter Zora in dance class, the motion mostly in the flip of her skirt:

then on a horse at horse camp a few years later:

Then her brother Ian at the horse camp show, assaulted by his friend Ava:

And because I'm a grandma, my other photos under general photos will be similar, but without motion.

how camp does a horse have to be to get in the Horse camp show?

Any idiot can face a crisis - it's day to day living that wears you out.
