But surprisingly, when I looked through my collection for a photo with red in it, I found this picture. It is of--by FAR--the most difficult thing I ever built. It is the measuring device I created to allow me to build custom-sized seating. I actually got a USA patent for this. And I still have no idea why I chose red (or black lacquer or brass, for that matter.)

The hydraulics power a frame that holds modules of various sizes and load-carrying capabilities (foam density and thickness). The modules can be easily swapped.
Once the measurements have been taken, a conventional-looking chair is produced from those measurements.
This project went bust in the recession of 1981-82. Perhaps this explains my undying hatred for Paul Volker and his monstrous economic ideas.
