well the first switch obviously opens the trapdoor into the pool of Piranhas

Life should consist in at least fifty percent pure waste of time, and the rest doing what you please.

Yes.

The hydraulics power a frame that holds modules of various sizes and load-carrying capabilities (foam density and thickness).  The modules can be easily swapped.

Once the measurements have been taken, a conventional-looking chair is produced from those measurements.

This project went bust in the recession of 1981-82.  Perhaps this explains my undying hatred for Paul Volker and his monstrous economic ideas.

The whole explanation for how this works can be found can be seen at:

Just follow the links under the "Sitting Pretty" section.  If you merely want to see the measuring chair in action:

OK now I'm jealous.  That looks like way too much fun to be a real job.

You are correct.  Re-read the sentence just below the photo of the black chair.

Yes. MAJOR ouch.  There is almost no way to describe the pain that is caused when a perfectly good idea and thousands of hours of intense work is destroyed to "prove" the theories of right wing crackpots.  I DETEST the monetarists.  Ironically, Paul Volker at 200 cm would have been an ideal customer for this product.  I hope his back is killing him.
