They know such programs as The National Health Service have broad popular support, so they don't attack them directly. They complain about the expense and about "inefficiencies," all the while putting sticks in the spokes of the wheels of the system whenever possible, to give them more to complain about. It is not possible to be excessively cynical about such matters. If sanity be culturally normative, then by the norms of this culture I claim insanity.
