The chief goal of privatization is to put public money in private pockets.  That less of the public money gets to the intended beneficiaries is seen as a good in itself by the more atavistic proponents. In their view, the government never should have been doing such things to begin with, and if it works, that only encourages people to want more.

They know such programs as The National Health Service have broad popular support, so they don't attack them directly.  They complain about the expense and about "inefficiencies," all the while putting sticks in the spokes of the wheels of the system whenever possible, to give them more to complain about.  It is not possible to be excessively cynical about such matters.

If sanity be culturally normative, then by the norms of this culture I claim insanity.
